Order status and fills
What each order status means for your funds, and what price you get when an order fills.
Every order carries a status.
| Status | What it means for your funds |
|---|---|
| OPEN | Resting in the book. Your offered amount is locked. |
| PARTIALLY_FILLED | Part of it traded and settled. The rest is still locked and still resting. |
| FILLED | Finished. The asset you traded for is in your wallet and nothing of yours is locked. |
| CANCELLED | Ended by you, or by Cardiv after 7 days or on a remainder too small to trade again. The locked amount went back to your wallet. |
| EXPIRED | Cardiv expired the order. Your funds are back in your wallet. |
| PENDING_TRIGGER | A stop-loss waiting for its price. The amount is locked and the order is not in the public book. |
| FAILED | The order never reached the Canton Network. Nothing was locked and nothing was charged. |
An order that has not filled within 7 days of being created is cancelled automatically, and the locked amount returns to your wallet. A partial fill restarts the 7 days from the fill.
Partial fills
An order that only partly trades settles the traded part straight away: those funds move immediately and the trade appears in your history. The remainder keeps resting at your price under the same order id.
The price you get
The order that was already resting sets the price. If you buy against an ask below your limit you pay the ask, not your limit. It works the same way for a seller: when the resting bid is higher than the price they asked, they receive more than they asked for. You are never filled at a worse price than the one you set.
How long it takes
From signing to seeing OPEN takes about 30 to 45 seconds. A cancel takes about the same. Most of that is the Canton Network confirming the transaction.
