Getting started

How your assets move

One order followed from the form to the fill, so you can see where your assets are at every step.

You set up the order. You choose a pair, a side, a price and an amount. Nothing has left the form.

Cardiv prepares the transaction. Cardiv works out the exact transaction your order needs, then sends you to Calden to approve it. Your order is held to one side while it waits for your signature, and nothing has moved: no funds are locked and there is no order in the book.

You approve and sign. Your offered amount is locked in your wallet and the order appears in the book. Both happen in one transaction, so there is no moment where one exists without the other.

A matching order arrives, or was already resting. Cardiv submits the trade. Your locked amount goes to the counterparty, and theirs arrives in your wallet, in one transaction. Neither side can receive without giving.

A partial fill leaves the rest resting. If only part of your order traded, that part settles immediately and the remainder stays locked at your price, under the same order id.

A cancel gives the funds back. When you cancel, the lock is released in the same transaction as the cancel, and the amount is spendable again straight away.

If a fill would leave you with a remainder too small to trade again, a dust order, Cardiv cancels it and returns it to your wallet rather than leaving it resting where it can never fill. Each pair sets the smallest order it keeps in the book; Pairs and minimums lists them.

You can see the lock in Calden while the order rests. Your balance there shows the locked amount separately from the amount you can still spend.
